History of Holi
Holi has its roots in Hindu mythology, and there are several stories associated with this festival. One of the most popular stories is the legend of Prahlada and Hiranyakashipu. According to this story, Prahlada was a devotee of Lord Vishnu, but his father, Hiranyakashipu, did not approve of his faith. Hiranyakashipu tried to kill Prahlada several times, but Lord Vishnu saved him every time. Finally, Hiranyakashipu’s sister, Holika, who had a boon of being immune to fire, sat on a pyre with Prahlada in her lap, hoping to burn him alive. However, due to Lord Vishnu’s blessings, Holika was burnt to ashes, and Prahlada was saved. This is why the first day of Holi is also known as Holika Dahan, where people light bonfires to signify the victory of good over evil.

Puja Vidhi:
- On the day of Holika Dahan, collect wood, dried leaves, and cow dung cakes to make a pyre.
- Light the pyre with a diya and offer prayers to Lord Vishnu and Holika.
- Perform aarti and offer flowers, coconut, and sweets to the deity.
- After the puja is over, distribute prasad among family and friends.
- On the day of Holi, perform aarti in the morning and offer sweets to the deity.
